Ran with Tatsuya Nakadai in person
June 15, 2013 at
Museum of the Moving Image
, New York
The most expensive film made in Japan at the time of its release, Akira Kurosawa's career-topping masterwork is the legendary filmmaker's searing version of King Lear; never were Kurosawa's battle sequences more furious, never was his use of color more bold and dramatic. Ran is among the screen's most enthralling Shakespeare adaptations and its great epics. The legendary Japanese actor Tatsuya Nakadai will be present for the screening, which will be introduced by Michael Barker, who was co-president of Orion Classics, which released Ran in the United States.
