Robert Flaherty Film Seminar
September 12-14, 2008 at
BAMcinématek
, New York
BAMcinematek is proud to bring the film selection from the annual Robert Flaherty Seminar to Brooklyn. Founded in 1955, the Seminar is an annual event that explores non-fiction cinema through screenings, filmmaker discussions, and intensive debates, all in a retreat-like setting. This year's program, The Age of Migration, probes how hybrid documentaries, video blogs, and personal narratives have become vehicles that collapse physical distances and connect people to their homelands and their histories. This series is curated by Chi-hui Yang, director of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.
Featured Works:
The Land (Robert Flaherty, 1942, pictured); The Exiles (Kent MacKenzie, 1961); Casa de Lava (Pedro Costa, 1994); Cargo (Laura Waddington, 2001); Black Sea Files (Ursula Biemann, 2005); The Form of the Good (James T.
